Environment:Environmental Topics Vol.2 GENERAL Air Conditioning Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Nature conservation activities

The GENERAL Group is working to conserve biodiversity, based on the recognition that "our business activities both benefit from and affect biodiversity."

GENERAL Air Conditioning Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd.(hereinafter, GMT), we participate in the "GMT Smile Project" and environmental protection activities organized by the industrial estates we belong to, as well as other environmental protection projects, and our management and employees are actively working to protect the natural environment.

Nature conservation activities

Every year, GMT participates in mangrove planting activities and coastal cleanups. Mangrove planting has many benefits, including:

  • Coastal protection:
Mangroves act as natural breakwaters, protecting coastal areas from tsunamis and storm surges, safeguarding the lives and property of coastal residents.
  • Carbon sequestration:
Mangroves absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide more efficiently than many other plants.
For example, mangroves can store up to five times more carbon than terrestrial rainforests.
A single mangrove tree can absorb 12.3 kg of CO2 each year, and approximately 400 kg of CO₂ over its lifetime.
Through the GMT Smile Project, 2,360 mangrove trees have been planted to date*1absorbing approximately 29 tons of CO2 per year.
In addition, mangroves have the ability to sequester carbon for longer periods of time than other plants because their root systems tend to form peat layers,
creating an environment in which CO2 is less likely to be released into the atmosphere.
  • Conservation of biodiversity:
Mangrove forests provide habitat for many plants and animals, increasing biodiversity.
  • Increase in fishery resources:
Mangrove forests provide breeding grounds for fish, shrimp, crabs, and other species, contributing to increased fisheries resources.

By also cleaning up the coast, we are also contributing to the protection of marine life.
